Ünsal Makina, which was founded in Kayseri in 1972 and is one of the important names in the sector with its powertrain production at European standards, is commissioning its new facility at the end of 2022, when it celebrates the 50th anniversary of its establishment. Ünsal Makina, which will gradually increase its production capacity with the new factory located in Kayseri İncesu OIZ, will add new markets, especially the USA, to its export network of 25 countries, 90% of which are from the European market.
Ünsal Makina General Manager Doğan Ünsal, whom we interviewed at the Win Eurasia Fair, made important statements about the new factory and export activities they implemented. Evaluating the company's goals to our magazine, Doğan Ünsal said that they allocated their increased capacity to new export markets and that America, where infrastructure work has been completed, is at the top of these markets. Next is the North Africa Region and the Middle East.
Can we get to know you and Ünsal Makina?
Doğan Ünsal, I was born in Kayseri in 1985. I have a princess daughter and a naughty son. The management of Ünsal Makina, which was established in Kayseri in 1972, has been handed over from the 1st generation to us, the 2nd generation. We operate in the power transmission sector with our 50 years of experience and our expert team of 130 people. In addition to our main focus of pulley production, we also produce couplings. As a company, we make 40 percent of our sales abroad and the European Region is the center of our exports.
Could you give general information about Ünsal Makina's product groups and the sectors in which it offers solutions?
The main line of the product groups we manufacture as Ünsal Makina are the pulleys that transfer the movement of electric motors to other parts of the machine. There are thousands of types of these pulleys. As Ünsal Makina; We produce V-pulleys, Poly-V pulleys and timing pulleys. In addition to pulley production, we also produce HRC coupling, star coupling and KC coupling. As a manufacturer of one of the main components of the machine, we offer solutions to all areas of the power transmission industry, except automotive.
As a company that produces at European standards, you have a serious export power. Can you tell us about Ünsal Makina's foreign market activities?
As Ünsal Makina, we make 40 percent of our sales abroad. We export 90 percent of our exports to 25 countries to the European Region, especially Germany. As you will appreciate, the European market is the most challenging region in exports: It is not easy to reach the production quality to export to the European Region. We have a good engineering team and a good history as a company. We will commission a new facility in Kayseri İncesu OIZ next year. We will increase our production capacity by commissioning a foundry in the facility in the first stage. We will allocate our new capacity to new export markets. America, where we have relevant infrastructure work, is one of our new export markets. We are also working on export development to the North African Region and the Middle East.
You have the TORK PT brand under the umbrella of Ünsal Makina. Can we get information about TORK PT?
The first generation of our company founded Ünsal Makina and made Ünsal Makina an important brand in the domestic market. As the second generation, we created the TORK PT brand in 2018. We launched TORK PT as a global brand and by concentrating our work in this way, we registered our TORK PT brand in Europe. Our dream; TORK PT has become a brand recognized by the industry on a global scale. We continue our work on this rapidly.
Can you share information about your new factory investment?
We will commission our fully automated foundry at the end of this year in our new facility investment in Kayseri İncesu OSB. We will further increase our capacity with the investments we will make in this line. We also have vacant places in our new factory. In a few years, we will make new investments in those areas and increase our machining capacity.
Can you evaluate the freight shortage, extension of deadlines and raw material crisis experienced on a global scale?
Negative developments in freight are among the biggest problems in the world. These problems have turned into an opportunity for companies like us that manufacture in Turkey and have a good infrastructure. As domestic producers, we have a hard time competing with the Far East. Increasing freight costs and lengthening deadlines have brought us to the forefront in the European market. Companies that are ready for this capacity are currently doing serious work.
As Ünsal Makina, we increased our capacity 2 years ago. As a company that constantly invests in machinery in its production line and increases the number of personnel; We are one of those who were prepared for this troublesome process on a global scale. I can say that we turned this crisis into an opportunity.
